How to increase Google adsense RPM

What is RPM in Google Adsense?

RPM simply stands for Revenue Per Mille or in simple terms revenue per 1000 impressions. The higher your adsense RPM, the higher your earnings

RPM doesn’t represent how much you have actually earned; rather, it’s calculated by dividing your estimated earnings by the number of page views, impressions, or queries you received, then multiplying by 1000.

Let’s assume your RPM is $5, it means you will likely earn $5 for every 1000 ad impressions on your site. So if your site serves say 10,000 ad impressions daily, your actual earning will be $5 x 10 = $50 daily.

What determines the RPM?

The average RPM varies depending on your site niche and other factors. Some niches get higher RPMs than others, so depending on your niche your RPM can be high or low.

RPM is determined by this formular;

Formula:
RPM = (Estimated earnings / Number of page views) * 1000

But if your RPM has suddenly fallen from its normal value, then you should be worried.

But don’t worry, in this article i will be sharing how you can improve your Google Adsense RPM and earn higher on the program.

How to increase Google Adsense RPM

While many things have been written about improving Google Adsense RPM, i want to share with your working methods to improve your RPM.

1. Reduce the number of ad units on your site to create more competition and thus RPM.

2. Keep your filter list small in order to increase the amount of competition for ads to appear on your site.

3. Opt-in to both Text and Display Ads.

In this case you can create an experiment to see which of Text ads or Image ads get the best RPM.

4. Choose the best performing ad blocks
You can increase your RPM by using the best performing ad blocks on your site. Some advertisers only design graphics to be displayed using certain ad sizes. It does make sense that using the ads that have more advertiser competition could lead to higher revenue for you.

Some of the more popular ad sizes mentioned were:

Leaderboard (728×90)
Large Rectangle (336×280)
Medium Rectangle (300×250)
Wide Skyscraper (160×600)
5. Drive quality traffic to your site

Your source of traffic can also affect your RPM, try and drive some quality traffic especially from search engines to your site.

Ensure to get your site SEO right, that way you can drive quality traffic via search engines to your site. RPM also depends on source of traffic, if your traffic mostly comes from USA, UK and Canada there is every possibility your RPM will be high.

So try and drive traffic from first world countries like the ones listed above.

But when your traffic is mostly from Nigeria, Ghana, India, Philippines etc, your RPM is most likely going to be low. So work on how to drive traffic from countries that can improve your RPM. Target USA, Canada, Australia, UK and improve your Google adsense RPM.

6. Place Ads above the fold

It will be wise to place ads right after your article title. RPM is dependent on pageviews/impressions. If your pageviews are increasing and your site is not receiving clicks then your RPM will drop.

So place adsense ads below post title in your blog and after content to get more CTR and thus higher RPM.
